Together with communities, FoodCorps serves to connect kids to healthy food in school. Based in Portland, OR, FoodCorps is creating a future in which all our nation’s children—regardless of race, place, or class—know what healthy food is, care where it comes from, and eat it every day. FoodCorps see schools as places where they can correct injustices, provide healthy food access and education, and help schools become places where kids get the nourishment they need to thrive.
We were asked to design a research book that would be used by K-12 school superintendents, district administrators, nutrition leaders and educators.
This is a visual representation of many years of research and data that showcases how those groups are working together, thinking about meal programs, and now providing school meals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
FoodCorp expressed the need for this book, while full of serious material, to be lively, engaging, and something fun to look at from cover to cover. They wanted their audience to be drawn into the information and be inspired for change.
With new typography and a new color palette, what started out as an idea for a 25 page book quickly turned into over 70 pages. The number of pages, however, is irrelevant when you have to consider keeping the reader's attention where there is LOTS of research to break down and to make appealing. We don't think we've ever had anyone say no to more pages when they see how beautiful it can be to break up blocks of text into digestible bites. It always works!
We'd say this is the most colorful work we've ever done!
